Key takeaways:

  • After signing or renewing an agreement, it’s easy to overlook internal awareness. Make sure business users actually know what data they can access and how.
  • There are multiple low-effort ways to build that awareness: welcome packs, lunch-and-learns, internal newsletter articles, and on-boarding materials for new joiners.
  • Identifying internal “data champions” who understand the data well helps awareness spread organically across teams.

  • TraditionData’s account managers and marketing team can actively support all of this.

Signing a new or renewed market data agreement is an important milestone. But there is another step that can be easy to overlook: making sure business users across your organisation understand what data they now have access to, how to access it and how it could support their work. Clients are increasingly taking this approach to build awareness, broaden utilisation and get a better return on their data investment.

We recently helped a client to do exactly this following a renewal. Our specialist marketing team created a customised welcome pack for the client’s users. It summarised the datasets available under their agreement, explained how users could access them, highlighted the markets covered and provided clear contacts for further information and support.

The renewal became an opportunity to reintroduce the data to the organisation. A welcome pack is one approach, but there are many ways your account manager can help you build awareness. For example, we can bring Tradition’s product and analytical teams directly to your end users. These sessions can focus on a particular dataset, asset class or workflow, giving users an opportunity to understand the data in greater detail and ask questions directly of our specialists.

This is particularly useful in OTC derivatives. Tradition is an active IDB in the markets where our data originates. We can therefore give your teams access to subject matter specialists with detailed knowledge of the markets, products and underlying data.

The format does not need to be complicated. A 30-minute lunch-and-learn with a product specialist can be an effective way of introducing the data to a trading, quant, valuation or risk team. Sessions can take place in person or remotely and can be tailored around the interests of a particular desk.

Internal communications can be equally effective. We have worked with clients to write articles explaining their licensed TraditionData content for publication in internal newsletters. We have also prepared shorter updates that clients can circulate to heads of desks and relevant business users. Our marketing team specialises in communicating complex derivatives markets to users. Your account manager can work with them to create client-specific product summaries, content for Wiki pages, short user guides or materials for new joiners.

We are also happy to add relevant market data users directly to the TraditionData account management newsletter. This ensures they receive regular updates on new datasets, enhancements and market developments, helping to keep the data front of mind and encouraging continued use across your organisation. Simply let your account manager know who you would like to include, and we take care of the rest.

Another successful strategy has been to identify data champions within our client’s organisation. These are users who understand the data well and can help colleagues know what is available, while maintaining a direct relationship with their TraditionData account manager and our specialists. Your TraditionData account manager is here to help people across your organisation understand, access and benefit from the data you have licensed, so that the investment you have already made delivers even greater value.

Regardless of your chosen strategy, we’re always there to help amplify the message to your wider organisation. Get in touch with me or your dedicated, local account manager and we will advise on the best ways to ensure your market data investment is fully understood, actively used and delivering maximum value across your organisation.
